D is for Daydream

April 3, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

This week I am hosting Blog Hop #75 for The Writers’ Post. My theme is daydream...

My sister and I spent hours swinging in the backyard. Our swing set wasn’t as sturdy as the one on the school playground—if we soared too high it bumped and threatened to throw us over the chain link fence. Even so, we managed to swing away entire spring afternoons, daydreaming about things important at the time or nothing in particular.

During fourth grade recess, my friends and I sat in patches of clover stringing necklaces until the bell rang. Clover-filled play time stirred up daydreams that lasted through math period.

For twenty-something years I was a loan officer who daydreamed about writing a book. Today I am happily writing toward that goal. Of course, occasionally I dream of the paycheck I once earned at the bank…:)

When we become lost deep in a daydream, inspiration germinates. Sometimes we need to get lost to find ourselves.

What fills your daydreams?

B is for Baseball

April 2, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

Batter against pitcher. Fielder against ball. C-R-R-R-A-C-K of the bat on a carefree spring day. The ball disappears in the glare of the sun as though the sky swallows then spits it out into a well-worn glove.

Hot dogs, salty peanuts, the smell of popcorn permeates the air—even high up in the cheap seats.

Cheering on the boys of summer, we are reminded of innocence and magic and everything good.

Play ball!
