Sunday Letter: 04.23.23

Hiya, Sunday Letter friends!

Mother Nature has been giving us a rude little scare the past couple of mornings by flirting with freezing temperatures here in northwest Arkansas. This isn’t surprising; she does this every spring around this time. And because of this, we hold off on planting certain flowers and seedlings outside (no matter how tempting it might be).

This last cold snap is called blackberry winter because it typically coincides with the blooming of blackberries. I’ve never grown blackberries, but I do have blossoms on my strawberries. Strawberries, blackberries—I bet they bloom at the same time.

Sunday Letter 09.04.22

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Are you as excited as I am that September is here? I treasure the change of seasons, and yes I’m counting down to the first day of fall. Nineteen days!

I’m also counting down to Bernice Runs Away which launches on October 1. Twenty-seven days!

You know what Gracie Lee Eudora Abbott would do? She would make a construction paper chain to count down to both of these important dates.

Maybe I will too.

Honestly, I can’t believe my next book is almost here. Sometimes this writing and editing and publishing endeavor smothers me, feeling like such an impossible, exhausting thing,  and then—💥—it all comes together as it should. Not without a little hair pulling and a lot of second guessing, mind you.

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Good morning and happy Sunday. As we head into the middle of October, the temperatures in northwest Arkansas have finally dropped—it was 39 this morning! The asters are in full bloom. And, the Ozark hills and hollows are slowly coming alive with fall color.
