D is for Daydream

April 3, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner 31 Comments

This week I am hosting Blog Hop #75 for The Writers’ Post. My theme is daydream...

My sister and I spent hours swinging in the backyard. Our swing set wasn’t as sturdy as the one on the school playground—if we soared too high it bumped and threatened to throw us over the chain link fence. Even so, we managed to swing away entire spring afternoons, daydreaming about things important at the time or nothing in particular.

During fourth grade recess, my friends and I sat in patches of clover stringing necklaces until the bell rang. Clover-filled play time stirred up daydreams that lasted through math period.

For twenty-something years I was a loan officer who daydreamed about writing a book. Today I am happily writing toward that goal. Of course, occasionally I dream of the paycheck I once earned at the bank…:)

When we become lost deep in a daydream, inspiration germinates. Sometimes we need to get lost to find ourselves.

What fills your daydreams?

And you can be sure that if you’re feeling right, a daydream will last long into the night… Lovin Spoonful, Daydream

Wonderful prompt!! About a year ago, I had a “dream” or a “day dream” to do something I had wanted to do since my 20’s. That dream was to get into rescue with my all time favorite dog breed the miniature schnauzer. Then about May–something inside me snapped… I had to stop day dreaming and start doing. A year later–I can tell you it is one of the most rewarding things I’ve decided to do– it has brought my family closer and we are all involved. And at the same time, I’m helping these four legged fur babies find the best forever homes possible!

    Cheers, Jenn

Well you already know how much I love schnauzers! I still can’t believe schnauzers ever need rescuing!

“When we become lost deep in a daydream, inspiration germinates. Sometimes we need to get lost to find ourselves” – loved these lines.
I have many dreams – Dream Big is one of my mantras.
My post for D is also on dreams. But will link up to the blog hop from my poetry blog.

Lovely, Talya. I could envision you on that swing and stringing garlands! I would never have guessed that you worked in a bank – I did too! 😉 But I’m sure you were are big a misfit as I was there. We were made to make our daydreams come true and how blessed we are that we’re getting there. ♥

Loved your post on daydreams, Talya. I am a daydreamer from way back and have probably made a few clover chains in my day. Good for you pursuing that book. I hear ya about missing that steady paycheck but I figure the tradeoff is so worth it. Thanks for letting us dream with you.

Did we grow up as neighbors? In the world of Daydreams, I’d say we did. Your postings are insightful.

Beautiful post and pictures. How blessed you are to be living your dream. As a child, I dreamed of far off countries and traveling the world…and here I am!

Yeah I daydream so much that I’m more likely to notice when I stop. Most of the time I end up thinking about the story I’m working on at the moment.

My daydream? To become a best-seller. Will I make it? If people buy my book, yes. Actually, I sort-of did make it with my Kindle book. Who knows? There may still be hope. 😀 As Cinderella sang “A dream is a wish our heart makes, when we’re fast asleep…No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dreams that you wish will come true.” Thank you for your blog.

Daydreams huh? Aside from wanting to get my stories out to people (because what is the point of a tale no-one hears?) I dream of my one room cottage under the willows. by a stream, somewhere in or very near Glastonbury. One day… it will be mine!

Talya–I, too, believe in the power of daydreaming…I get some of my best ideas while letting my mind just drift. Happy Daydream Day!

Really interesting…I happen to daydream, I still do, but it used to be more prominent in the school days 🙂
In those times, a daydream could be about almost any random thing…now it’s more of ‘specifically random’ :))

Talya, so much was packed in this post. I agree that we sometimes need to get lost to find ourselves and day dreaming is something I have always been good at. Heck, I’ve mastered it! Unfortunately, most of my day dreaming was done during history class…beautiful imagery of you and your sister on the swing set. Good ole’ days. Good times. 🙂

I’m daydreaming my way to writing a couple of novels at the moment. I do find daydreaming a great way to flesh out my plots and characters. Idle away the hours 🙂
