Dear March,

March 1, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner

Dear March,Dear March,

If I individually track the next thirty-one days, each is likely to feel different. Drizzle. Thunderstorms. Warm sunshine. Days of dreary cold and maybe even snow, weather to remind us we aren’t out of the winter woods yet. And your howling wind! Are you announcing yourself?

Or maybe the biting wind should be blamed on Ole Man Winter who won’t go without a fight.

Charles Dickens perfectly described you, March, as summer in the light, and winter in the shade.

So true.

Dear March, I know you mark the beginning of spring. I begin to dream of flower beds and lake days and fresh vegetables from farmer’s market, even though I never got a single bowl of snow cream.

If you’ve read my book, The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee, you know about this particular stand of trees. Gracie Lee and her little sister, Abby, studied the woods from the back seat of Momma’s car each time they traveled to and from Boon Chapel—at a minimum, twice on Sunday.

Any place unusual in the Delta was considered interesting and worthy of extra thought and usually given a special name such as Thrill Hill or Dead Man’s Curve or Blue Hole.

But especially The Woods.Continue Reading

Lucy and Annabelle go to Zuppa Zuppa Soup Kitchen

Lucy and Annabelle go to Zuppa Zuppa Soup

Last Saturday, Lucy and Annabelle went to Zuppa Zuppa Soup Kitchen. The spring-like weather had all of us headed outside, and besides, Ann Harris, owner of Zuppa Zuppa, was introducing a soup in honor of Gracie Lee—Amazing Gracie Chicken and Dumplings!

A Gracie Lee favorite, for sure.

Since Zuppa Zuppa Soup Kitchen is one of the food trucks at the Yacht Club on College, I thought it would be perfect for Lucy and Annabelle. Casual. Outside. Pet friendly. Sounds good on paper, right?Continue Reading
