Savoring March

Where’d you go March? In like a lion and out lickety split. One of the benefits of keeping a journal is being able to go back and revisit how my days were siphoned off into yesterdays. But seriously, 1Q2017 is over. Did you savor the month as best you could?

I tried even though I was on the go for much of the month. Savoring while “going” takes extra effort and mindfulness, especially for a homebody like me. It’s easy to get frazzled.

Here’s a quick recap of my March 2017.

Savoring FLAVOR…

What can I say? In March, I enjoyed the heck out of my Girl Scout cookies. Thank you Bramell, Party of 5! I ordered quite a few boxes, gave away several, and inhaled a bunch.

When I go back through my food pictures, I realize I cooked lots of egg dishes in March. To balance the Samoas, of course.
My book event travels put me in touch with corn dogs at the Jonquil Festival, a delicious homemade meal whipped up by my friend Dorothy, and Gracie Lee’s favorite strawberry cake provided by the Park Hill Presbyterian Book Club in North Little Rock.

Yum.

I enjoyed excellent meals at two of my favorite Mississippi County restaurants—the Wilson Cafe and the Riverlawn Country Club. Yeah, I feasted pretty well in March.

Savoring FRIENDS AND FAMILY…

Life would be pretty dull without friends and family, wouldn’t it? In March, I hung out with my Conway cousins, saw blogger and writer friends I don’t see nearly often enough, spent quality time with my husband, and enjoyed a whole fun-filled weekend with my Momma and sister at home on the farm.

SAVORING FUN…

March fun included the Jonquil Festival which I can drill down into jaunty banjo picking, visiting with lovely ladies dressed in period attire, and saturating myself in Arkansas history.

In March, our newly planted cherry trees bloomed for the first time.

Did I mention, I’ve been accepted into an international writing retreat in Iceland!? Booking airline tickets + planning my itinerary + dusting off my passport = over the moon fun. Woohoo!

SAVORING FOCUS…

I read (or listened to) seven books in March.

In between the travel and reading, I got in a decent amount of writing. Decent, yet never enough.

In March, John and I focused on our house. Curb appeal and all… We power washed the outside, touched up trim, and finally got around to painting our back porch ceiling “haint” blue. (Just to be clear, Chris Smith Painting did the heavy lifting.)

Although the cookies and corndogs and strawberry cake may point to the opposite, in March I focused on my health by checking off several doctor appointments. And in between the cookies and corndogs and strawberry cake, I tried to eat more protein and fresh veggies.

Really, I did.

SAVORING NEW FINDS and a bit of FLUFF…

Here’s a tongue-twister for you: My sister and I went shopping at Me & My Sister in Blytheville (one of our go-to places when we’re home). I bought a new (for me) jean that is super soft, fits like a glove, yet doesn’t seem too skinny. In other words, a jean miracle. The brand is Articles of Society, and I’m wearing them as I type.

I LOVE this local (Ashdown) Arkansas goat milk soap from Tyson Honey Farm! I bought three bars, and I know I’ll be buying more.

THINGS NOT SO SAVORY…

As I mentioned in a previous post, I had a colonoscopy in March. Not savory but DONE for another five years.

Another not so savory thing—we had snow in March. Ugh. Too late, Ole Man Winter, too late. We’ve moved on to spring.
