M is for Munger Place

April 15, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner 20 Comments

established 1905

More a feeling than locale, we live
Under one hundred year old rafters
Nestled beneath a canopy of spreading oaks.
Graced with classic columns, our prairie-style homes
Encompass history. We are humbled,
Respectful, thankful to the visionaries, those tireless

Pioneers who created and fought to preserve these
Long-standing homes, wrapped with perfectly
Aligned porches, built where
Cotton once grew. We are only caretakers,
Each of us.

our home
our neighborhood

Munger Place – our friends!

Musical Pairing:

Sugar Cane, Scott Joplin (1908)

Corinne this is a picture at a neighborhood party, not family. Well, I guess we are all family…

Love the sense of history you describe and the gorgeous photos of the old houses with those majestic columns. What a wonderful group photo of family and friends! And who can resist Scott Joplin’s music to give it that right atmosphere?

Marvelous and Majestic are two “M” words that come to mind after being ‘acrosticized’ and ‘acousticized’ by your awesome poem and music you’ve shared!=) I also like your remark about Munger Place residents having the role of being ‘caretakers,’ which is an important job in keeping history alive for all generations. And I have to say, from reading this blog and your other writings about Munger Place, I think you are definitely doing your part to keep your awesome neighborhood’s rich history intact. I also like the picture you’ve posted. It shows the love and togetherness of family and friends that a lot of neighborhoods don’t share these days…I was trying to figure out what your “M” word would be…and…”duh”…I should have figured it out. Not much of a detective, I are.=)

How interesting! Our neighborhood was named for Robert S. Munger, cotton gin genius and Dallas real estate developer…

Family, awesome topic!! I love that you used the Scott Joplin song. I recently read a book about him without knowing who he was. When I Googled his music, I was shocked to know I’d been hearing some of his pieces most of my life without even realizing who it was that penned them.
