Veritas Wine Room (so much more than wine!)

Bradley Anderson, Veritas Wine Room, Dallas, Texas

Veritas Wine Room is so much more than wine. It’s a cozy place to hang out “where everyone knows your name”…  Owners Bradley and Brooks Anderson, East Dallas boys, are  knowledgeable and passionate and can assist with wine selection all night long. It’s what they do. They also know how to host a Sunday night lobster boil on the third Sunday of each month. Next one = this Sunday, July 20th!

TJ’s Fresh Seafood Market + Veritas Wine Room

Once a month, feast on a huge lobster with all the fixins’. That means corn, potatoes, mussels and clams from TJ’s Fresh Seafood Market. Oh my. All for only $35. It’s a deal.

Subscribe to Veritas’ email newsletter to keep up with weekly happenings such as half-price glasses from open to close every Monday, special dinners, wine tastings and wood-fired pizza night (via Il Cane Rosso). Sometimes they have wine and chocolate tastings…

Yes. Veritas is much more than wine.

Garden in Summer

July 9, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner 6 Comments

Summer in Dallas

Summer has arrived in Dallas. As we flirt with 100 degrees, the air lays blanket thick over my garden. Yet even with hot, hot temperatures, bright colors and fresh smells fill Promise of Peace Community Garden. Cucumbers and okra are taking over my bed. I harvest tomatoes, eggplant, ginormous basil, spinach, and swiss chard. In my neighbors’ plots, pumpkins, cantaloupe and honeydew grow heavy on the vine.

Here are a few pictures I snapped this week.

Spiceman's FM 1410

See this storefront covered in bars? Follow me inside and feast your eyes on Spiceman’s FM 1410, a wonderland of exotic produce, herbs, micro-greens, fungi, and yes, spices.

get your foraged morel mushrooms at Spiceman's 1410, East Dallas

Proprietor Tom Spicer sells to all the hippest Dallas restaurants, and he’ll sell directly to you and me too.

Spiceman's FM 1410

Spiceman’s FM 1410 is located in East Dallas, next door to Urbano Cafe and behind Jimmy’s Food Store. His market is urban, his food seductive.

Depending upon what’s growing out back, his offerings may include Dragon tongue beans, Indian desert celery, fresh green coriander berries, fiddle heads, wild miners lettuce, black garlic and more.

And the ‘shrooms? A dime bag will change your dinner.

No matter what you buy, the Spiceman (as he’s known around town) will send you off with a few of his own favorite recipes.  If you have time to spare (and you will), he’ll sit and gab. He’s a storyteller too.

One more thing—I highly suggest you LIKE his Facebook page. His posts are downright literary.

(He kinda has that Dr. House thing going on, no?)

Stop in this weekend. His market is an East Dallas treasure.
