Rice Field. Mississippi County, Arkansas

September 10, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

Rice Field Mississippi County Arkansas
Rice Field, Tate Farms, Northeast Arkansas

“Why does no one speak of the cultural advantages of the country? For example, is a well groomed, ecologically kept, sustainably fertile farm any less cultural, any less artful, than paintings of fat angels on church ceilings?”

Vintage Rooster Art

August 7, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

wordless wednesday (almost)

Grace Grits and Gardening
cock-a-doodle-doo!
Did you grow up eating breakfast with this slice of kitchen Americana?
I did. And yes, I’m dating myself.
Momma glued dried beans and seeds to a cloth pattern stapled onto a giant piece of plywood. My sister and I helped. When all the beans were in place, we sealed it with a coat of shellac.
Nana made one too. Nana’s rooster art hung on the kitchen at the lake house.
One spring, bugs attacked the lake house rooster. It was ugly.
Do you still have one?
Anyone, anyone?

p.s. In a pinch… whip up store bought frosting in your Kitchenaid to add more fluff + add a few drops of almond or vanilla extract for extra flavor. Add cocoa powder to make it chocolaty.
