the trees of New York City

December 10, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner

A Tree Grows in New York

Have you missed me? I’ve been in New York City. I don’t travel to New York very often, and in between trips it’s easy to forget the sheer massiveness of it all, the pulsating energy, the throngs of people, the noise. I wonder what it must be like for New Yorkers, to actually “be” from New York. Where do they go to be impressed by a skyline. Is that even possible? If New Yorkers vacation in the country or at the beach, do they long for all the concrete? Because I get antsy without stars and fresh air and wide open space.

I have lots to share with you about our New York trip—more than one post worth—but as I look back through all the pictures I took, I realize I snapped lots of tree shots. All sorts of New York trees.

I suppose that’s not surprising for anyone who knows me.Continue Reading

I had a God week.

October 5, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner

I had a God week.I try to avoid certain topics on my blog, especially the two biggies that get people all riled up—religion and politics. But today? Today, I’m giving a shout out to God. My higher power. My spiritualism. Because I had a God week‚ an in-your-face, hey-don’t-forget-about-Me sort of God week.

And I’ll tell you why.Continue Reading

Wild Side of the Road

July 7, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner

The road to Hana.

Driving to Hana. Maui, Hawaii

Warm sunshine, the glare brilliant. Cannonball! My toes plunge to an icy spot deep beneath the surface of the lake. Relief on a hot July day.

Pressing seeds into the damp earth, I inhale the freshness of soil. The beginning of life.

Wading in the ocean, the tide yearns, pulls. The moon watches.

Alone in the woods, the black forest encircles me. What if I get lost?

Pen to paper, I release thoughts buried inside my mind. Memories stir.

Only one footstep from normal, the wild side of the road awakens the soul.

“And now let the wild rumpus start!”
