Savoring November + Thanksgiving Decor

November 17, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner

savoring november

This year, I’m savoring November. On November 1, I began placing a few Thanksgiving decorations around so I can enjoy them all month. And I’ve been using my turkey dishes rather than pulling them down the day before Thanksgiving which is how it usually works.

There’s no rule against serving scrambled eggs on turkey dishes. Right?

This year, for whatever reason, I feel better organized, at least with my decor. And I cannot wait to have the whole family together. It’s been MONTHS since I’ve seen my kids (who aren’t kids but will always be kids). They are adults who live in Austin and Denver.

Every single day, I’m so incredibly thankful to be their Mom.

My "kids"

Every.Single.Day.

It seems the whole country has fast forwarded to Christmas, skipping Thanksgiving altogether. At least that’s what the retailers would have us believe. I hold fast to the idea that Thanksgiving deserves its own time separate from the hustle and bustle of Christmas. I never decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Don’t judge, I’m no Scrooge. I LOVE Christmas. I just happen to love Thanksgiving, too.

Thanksgiving is a time for reflective thankfulness. Quiet Thanksgiving helps me prepare for holly jolly Christmas. Its stillness and simplicity is like a prelude to Advent.

I think we all need a peaceful prelude.

Fabulous Fall Decorating, Thrift Store Prices!

September 22, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner

Fabulous fall decorating with thrift store finds!

Today is the first day of fall, which means I’m talking fall decorating. If your house is like mine, both the inside and outside could use a little spiffing up for autumn. My potted plants look tired, and I know even a simple pumpkin on the porch will do much to detract from the lingering heat.

I’m not one to spend lots of time at the mall, but I do enjoy hitting flea markets and thrift stores. If the change of season sends you out in search of seasonal decor, I highly recommend a visit to your local Salvation Army. Second chance items not only have plenty of life left, but the gems you uncover won’t make a dent in your pocketbook.

Amen to that.

Are you ready to see the fabulous fall tablescape I created? With a twenty-five dollar budget, I think you’ll be slightly amazed at the cool thrift shop finds I snagged at the Salvation Army in Rogers, Arkansas. (Yes, this is a sponsored post, and yes, opinions are only my own.)

To see the complete before and after, as well as read my tips for successful thrift store shopping, click HERE and you’ll be directed to my guest post on the Salvation Army of Northwest Arkansas blog.

gobble gobble on over to your local thrift store

Thanks!

Decorate with Cotton

November 20, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner

how to decorate with cotton

A couple of weeks ago, I did a little Thanksgiving decorating using simple things around the house. This week I’m decorating with cotton. As a delta girl, I think cotton is the perfect natural touch for the home. It’s too late to pick it from the fields, so if you missed out or don’t live where cotton is grown, you’ll have to purchase it online or at craft stores. Not quite the real deal, but you’ll get a similar look.
