Dear Sunday Letter friends,
Happy Mother’s Day to all those who mother! Mothers have all the essential jobs. They dry tears, provide motivation, feather nests (and later push us from the nest)āteaching, encouraging, scolding, doing all the things that keep the world spinning.
Y’all know how special my Momma is. Even within the space of my short Sunday Letters, she keeps all of us laughing. (You should be with her in person.)

I can’t think of Mammaw Ruby (my grandmother on Daddy’s side) without thinking of chicken and dumplings. Hers were the best! She made a huge pot full for every family gathering.
While I don’t pretend mine are anywhere as good as hers, they are pretty dang delicious. Today I’m sharing my recipe (which is based on her recipe which came from the original Bisquick box).Continue Reading
We had friends over to eat Tuesday night. John grilled burgers, and I bakedĀ the best Mac and Cheese in all the land which hopefully cancelled out the very average pot of beans I served with it. This is my go-to mac and cheese recipe. There’s no need to make any other. You could add lobster like the fancy restaurants do and have a dish people would pay $17 a servingĀ for in Dallas (i.e. Capital Grille). I truly believe that.
