Cold Morning

November 19, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner 4 Comments

Cold Morning: an acrostic from this morning’s writing practice.

Cold Morning

Crystals cover slanted rooftops. A cold night
Offers a glittery morning.
Leaves, already brilliant with fall, still sleep, muted and
Dreamy with frost. The whole world

Magically rests beyond windows fogged with breath.
On this Sunday before Thanksgiving Day, I
Remember the holiday meals of my childhood at
Nana’s house on the home place.
I relive cozy afternoons with her,
Near to me, she still feels all these years later.
Gentle and generous even in death.

Nana

Happy Sunday, on this cold morning. I’m counting down to Thanksgiving. Time to make that grocery list and check it twice! Four sleeps, y’all…

Ashlie Tolliver Wilson: 6 months clean.

March 30, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner 1 Comment

If you have been following Ashlie Tolliver Wilson’s day-by-day journey to escape fight addiction, you know what an inspiration she has become to so many. My first post about Ashlie has been one of my most shared posts proving her story is widely relatable.

Ashlie is a small town girl from Northeast Arkansas. She’s one of us. Today marks Ashlie’s six month clean date. When I asked Ashlie if she wanted to write a blog post to celebrate her six month milestone, this is what she shared…

Methamphetamine and Me

Meth was my best friend for six years.

Everything I did revolved around my addiction.

There were many people who tried to

Help me, and I tried many times to quit the

Awful habit. I didn’t want to be the

Me I had become. Several times I broke away but always got

Pulled back into a world I describe as

Hell on earth. At first I loved the wonderful

Euphoric feeling getting high gave me. But over

Time, euphoria turned to paranoia. The

Abuse to my body and mind wore me down.

My life spiraled out of control. I hit bottom, and

I hit hard. Finally I stood up and said

No more. Tired of that life, I did what some have called

Extraordinary. I fought back.

And much to my surprise, by doing something I

Never thought possible, I made up my mind,

Determined to win my battle against addiction.

My name is Ashlie Tolliver Wilson, and I am so very

Excited to be celebrating six months meth free.

Ashlie today:)

Proud of you Ashlie!

The Greatest Love of All

March 23, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner 21 Comments

Tell me a story. With

heavy

eyes, the boy

grew more quiet with each breath. I’ll tell you a

real story, the

Easter story

about a man who was

tortured and beaten,

even

spit upon and

treated like the

lowest of criminals. Is this a scary story, the child asked. No, quite the

opposite. This is a reassuring,

valiant story of the greatest love…

eventually you’ll understand.

Oh, he said, what happened next? The

Father was

accused of crimes, crowned with thorns and nailed to a wooden cross. He sacrificed

life to save the

lives of His children. The boy slept.
