Brand New Year…

January 3, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner

The only new year's resolutions needed…
aophotos morgueFile

Roll away the dark clouds and
Enjoy the
Sunlight, the feel
Of a brand new year.
Listen. Really listen and hear.
Understand we are all different. Make
Time for special. Create. Push
Into the unknown, past
Obstacles that constrict and confine. Say
No.
Say yes. Whichever is more
Freeing. Focus
On the road ahead while
Remembering where the path began.
Reach deep, write fervently,
Expose life’s layers.
Always be considerate.
Love the unloveable. Release the negative.
Laugh. Read something different. Re-read an old favorite.
Indulge. Cook with passion. Have
Faith. Smile. Walk in the rain.
Exist in the now.

What will you do with this brand new year?

for Andie…

Maybe she was simply needed
In another place, too perfect for this one. The
Raw reality of her
Absence still fresh years later. Taken just after
Christmas—the sheer timing cruel. A
Loss so incomprehensible
Especially in
One so young. Life unrolls in delicate,
Fragile waves, ridden but not understood. We
Trust
He has a plan
Even while we
Languish, gasping for air. And then
A reminder. Hope, love, beauty touches the
Depths of a mother’s heart.
Yellow, raw pain soothed as hundreds of ladybugs—
Brilliant red dots of joy—
Uproot
Grief. If only for a moment.

smell of old books

smell of old books

Stacked in the far corner—dusty,
musty and ignored—an
entire world awaits at only fifty cents each.
Leave me while I
linger
over brittle, yellowed pages filled with
fanciful words, forgotten fonts.
Outdated tales
languish, longing to be rediscovered beneath
durable covers
bound by history. Yes, I’m
obsessed. Whose fingers touched these pages? I inhale the
odor of linseed and ink and paper and coffee. A
keyhole to yesterday. The
smell of time.
