Road Trip to Texas (food, friends, Mavs who forgot to show)

March 24, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner

Hey. I’ve been out of town. The girls (Lucy and Annabelle) and I took a little road trip to Texas.  I saw my niece perform in her high school musical—always a fun thing!—ate at some of my favorite restaurants, saw the Dallas Mavericks lose to the Memphis Grizzlies, and hung out with a few friends. Now we are back in Fayetteville, which by the way, is in full spring bloom. Gorgeous!

Since I can’t think of anything clever to say, I’ll share a few pictures of the weekend.

I love seeing a random balloon floating on the water or sailing through the sky. And I saw one in Las Colinas.

John and I took the dogs for a walk along Campion Trail smack dab in Las Colinas near a branch of the Trinity River. Nice! Annabelle promptly picked up THREE ticks. Not so nice!

We had fantastic seats at the Dallas Mavericks game (my Mother’s Christmas gift to John). Even though the Mavs forgot to show (rude), we had a great time. Riding the Dart rail to ACC felt very urban and eliminated the whole parking thing. I had a huge, ice cold beer and a yummy hot dog, so all was not lost. Plus, the Grizzlies are my backup team anyway.

We spent time with good friends in our old Munger Place neighborhood. Lucy and Annabelle enjoyed seeing their buddy, Chester, who kept a lookout for the Scalini’s pizza man.

Yes, we drove by our house which I must say makes me cringe a little. The front room, which was painted a soothing (to us) paint color has been replaced with red raspberry that glows like a beacon down Worth Street. To each her own.

How was your weekend?

Tell Your Stories.

January 11, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner

I’m excited to be guest posting at A Love Letter to Adventure today, an incredible blog written by my friend Sarah Shotts. Sarah is an amazing photographer, an adventurer, a traveler. I like to think of Sarah as a younger, more exciting version of myself.

TELL YOUR STORIES!

I’m a homebody. Sarah’s a world traveler. I love to take pictures. With my iPhone. She’s a real photographer with a fancy camera. She knows all about shutter speed and things like that.

Maybe I’ll get a camera this year? It could happen.

But the thing is, no matter who we are or where we travel (or don’t travel), we all have stories to tell.

Anyway. Several months ago, she asked me to guest post for her. I totally forgot what I wrote, but ta-da! HERE IT IS.

Tales from the Kitchen Table.

Tell Your Stories.

I hope you’ll read so she’ll ask me back:)

Happy Sunday friends!

Dallas Staycation

July 12, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner

Over 4th of July weekend, John and I enjoyed a Dallas staycation. He took two rare days off work, and I tried my best not to work on my manuscript. We crammed lots of simple fun into our staycation—two movies (a 4th of July miracle), grilling with friends and family, shopping, gardening and lots of reading.

Saturday we spent the afternoon wandering around all the cute boutiques in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas.

We stuffed ourselves at Eno’s Pizza. Check out the Pig Smiley pizza. Best pizza name ever. Spicy sausage, ham, cheese and local honey. If you’ve never had honey drizzled on your pizza, you are missing out.

Since John had never driven over the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge (designed by Spanish artist, architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava), we made sure to do that. He drove while I took pictures from the sun roof like a tourist. It is truly stunning.

We wasted time in Lost, one of our favorite antique stores located on Riverfront. We only browsed. I’m still patting myself on the back for not buying anything.

Yes, I even passed up this table of Fiesta pieces!

Fiesta!

I bought my annual Life is Good t-shirt at Whole Earth, along with my new lake hat:) These summer essentials make me hap-pap-py. Da doo dada da, dee da da dee da da…

My favorite summer purchases.

How’s your summer going?
