Valentine’s Day 2017

February 14, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner

Happy Valentine's Day 2017

Happy Valentine’s Day 2017! I’m popping in to bring you Valentine greetings and to show off a sweet gift I received in the mail from my friend Dorothy. The bag, decoupaged gold and decorated with vintage style embellishments, took me back to those Valentine parties held in elementary school once upon a time.

Dorothy said she’s been in a crafty mood lately. I was happy to benefit from her creativity!Continue Reading

The energy of Denver Street Art

Denver Street Art…

Denver Street Art

Mural, 16th Street Mall, by @zehb_1

I spent an entire day last week walking around taking pictures of Denver street art. There’s so, so much! The beautiful day felt as though I’d downloaded it from a weather app, fairytale perfect—I was extremely fortunate in that regard. Denver. January. It could have been way different.

Street art is technically defined as “art developed in public places”. I consider street art as anything that stops me, draws my eye, makes me take a second look. In a good or interesting way, of course.

Something to note: Denver street art has been a real thing for decades. There are entire pockets of the city devoted to it. In the summer, Denver hosts a Chalk Art Festival. Each September, the Crush Street Art Festival showcases and celebrates a series of remarkable murals. The city even has its own society of crocheting street artists commissioned from time to time to crochet bomb large installations.  Continue Reading

create a Creative Space

January 24, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner

from closet to creative space!

This guest room closet had nothing in it so I claimed it. Now an unused closet provides a creative space for writing, journaling, crafting, or whatever artistic endeavor strikes my fancy. And while the spot is small, small is ideal for my needs.

  • The room itself is quiet with no distractions.
  • If I have a houseguest, I can pull the curtain shut and hide the clutter. Not that craft projects could ever be clutter-y. (But they can.)
  • I haven’t done anything permanent. If I need to convert my creative space back to a closet, that’s an easy project, too.

I took a “before” picture, but I can’t find it. You’ll have to use your imagination which is pretty easy considering it really had nothing in it—a rod for hanging clothes and a shelf above, both which are still there. And FYI, my “before” happened way back in September. That’s when I first thought about doing this, moved the desk in, and then didn’t do anything else until last weekend.
