Yesterday I spent the entire day getting my home office organized while my blog migrated from Blogger to WordPress. (Most of you won’t care about this, but you bloggers will… It was like waiting for my child’s fever to break. IAmNoComputerProgramer, and this whole process has been nerve-wracking for me…)
Since I was tied to my computer anyway, I sorted stacks and stacks of paperwork organizing everything into my new cool files. They make me happy.
I cleaned my chalkboard wall and erased last year’s completed lists or abandoned ideas in favor of a fresh slate. This is where I write story and blog ideas, lists, inspirational quotes, etc. (It is still wet in the picture and looks a bit strange…)
And I shredded tons of paper—pages and pages of my book rough draft, thousands of words written last year.
And I worked on taxes.
This morning my blog is up and running (although it no doubt needs tweaking), and my desk is organized.
Whew!
Happy Weekend.

I spend a good part of yesterday doing the same. It’s nice to settle down to a quiet routine. Love those folders!
Are you back home?
love the new blog look!! and doesn’t it feel good to start fresh – fresh look, fresh folders, fresh organization – fresh is good!
Thank you so much Kathy! So much to learn but I’ll get there:)) I appreciate you!
You made the switch, huh? Would love to hear more…I try and do searches on wordpress vs blogger and get crosse-eyed. I like to hear from personal experiences. Your blog looks great! I admire how dedicated you are to your writing! Hope all is well!
Thank you Jodi! Yes this was one of my goals for 2014 and I made the leap mostly due to the encouragement and recommendations of AWB & TXB friends who know more than I. I have lots to learn but I think I will love it…
Congratulations on the move to WordPress. I think you’ll enjoy how much control you have over stuff. And if I can help, let me know. I’m not an expert by any means, but I’ve been using it for several years.
Thanks Gary! I have a little experience with it via my Dallas Advocate posts and my short story blog, but self-hosted is a bit different. All the plug-ins! I’m like a kid in a candy store… If you have any hot tips, please pass them on.
If you start to have problems with spam posts, I’ve found Akismet, WangGuard, and the Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin to be quite useful.
JetPack. You want JetPack. Gives you a ton of stuff to play with, including statistics about page visits and the like.
Gary I have Akismet which has already been amazing on spam. I was immediately bombarded! I have JetPack too but have no idea what it does yet. So many options – I wish I had changed to WP earlier. Or better yet, started there from the beginning.
Congrats on surviving the blog migration without pulling out all of your hair! They are completely exhausting.
Yes a bit overwhelming. Thank you Skye!
Days like that are actually some of my favorite…I always feel so accomplished when it’s all over! Have a fabulous weekend!!!
me too! Happy weekend to you.
I love that big ol’ chalkboard! 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you fill it with for 2014!
Thanks Amanda!
Hey, nice look! Congratulations on getting organized! It must give you a real sense of accomplishment!
Thanks Colene! Glad you could still find me:))
You’re going to love WordPress. I have been on an organizing frenzy also and it feels soooo good. I keep finding things that I should have discarded forever ago. Oh well, better late than never.
Thanks Ashley! I think I already do:))
looks good to me, something about a clean slate, although yours may have had a divine image on there while drying (thought I saw Bear Bryant!).
Thanks Bryan!
I so need to do this. We just got a shredder, and I’ve been shredding like crazy.
Looks Good, Talya. I enjoy WP, even though I get frustrated now and then. It’s a learning process!
Yay, on the move. I’m hopin’ to do the same in the upcoming months. My hosting I bought through blogger will be up and I’ll be jumpin’ ship with ya. As for the post above: Glad everything went smoothly. Give me hope for when I make the jump. The whole process is nerve-wracking.
I resisted for a while but I think I will love WP. Good luck!
