Today’s trendy Christmas trees are wrapped in wide netting and floral shop ribbon. Sparkly picks spew from vogue treetops with ornaments selected to match a theme.
Aqua peacock feathers will never symbolize Christmas to me.
I suppose my tree seems quaint and old-fashioned.
Boughs are filled with crafts the kids made in elementary school, vintage Shiny Brite, Nana’s gold glitter balls circa 1970-something. I need to touch and feel and remember the same ornaments each December.
Years ago when we barely had anything on our tree, Momma and Kelsey selected our angel topper.
Our angel continues to watch new ornaments join the collection as memories grow.
What’s your tree style?

I love the old fashioned trees and homemade ornamates. All these fashion trees are ok if one wants to spend all that money on something that’s only going to be up a few weeks then boxed up or sold for half what you paid for it. I just don’t get it. To commercial not enough reaching out to someone in need.

I do mix in new with the old but have never been very good at themes.

Five years ago, I designed my first “fashion tree.” It is themed with nature and Cotton! I love it. I use ornaments in my collection that have similar color patterns, plus Cotton Bolls ornaments that I made. It’s creative and pretty. BUT, I have my “Old Fashioned Family Christmas Tree” also. The color scheme is Red and the kids’ ornaments, the Peabody Duck, Elvis, and a Yellowstone Moose all have their branches. I love decorating for Christmas- it celebrates the beauty of Christmas and honors the years of memories.
Split Personality – 2 trees for Christmas!

Now cotton and nature is fashion I can stand behind:)) I have always wanted to do a tree filled only with natural or handmade items.

I like my new ornaments but I LOVE my old ornaments and each one brings back memories when I hang them on my tree.

Ditto Colene and thanks!

The last time I decorated a tree, I did so kind of unconventionally. I had cats at the time. So there were lights, but no tinsel or anything tempting to the feline palate. I used silk flowers, plastic berries, leaves, and vines, and ribbons. The colors were all kind of rustic and country, so the tree was muted rather than bright. It’s the kind of tree I like–nothing shmancy, just simple and attractive.

Sounds very cool. Picture?

I either did not take a picture (90%) or no longer have such a picture (10%). Alas. I guess I’ll just have to decorate anew. ๐

Your tree looks like a Christmas tree should look! It’s beautiful. Mine is a mix of gold, bronze and silver with some long-time ornaments intermingled. I think this is my last year for a big fancy tree. It took me days to get it decorated and then the lights malfunctioned so I had to take a lot of ornaments off and redo lights on my “pre-lighted tree.” I think I’m done with such!
Talya Tate Boerner says
Sometimes I think about skipping the lights altogether…
