Hello Summer!

June 19, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

wordless wednesday…

The true Southern watermelon is a boon apart, and not to be mentioned with common things. It is chief of this world’s luxuries, king by the grace of God over all the fruits of the earth. When one has tasted it, he knows what the angels eat. It was not a Southern watermelon that Eve took; we know it because she repented. – Mark Twain

Great photo! I live in Atlantic Canada and unfortunately our summers are not long enough to grow watermelon; but I do love it and buy it at the supermarket at least once or twice a season.

This was the watermelon at our family reunion last weekend. It was the sweetest watermelon I have had in a long time. I ate it instead of the forty desserts!

I love watermelon any time of year; however, I usually don’t get much in the winter. 🙁

Nothing better than watermelon on those hot summer days, that’s a fact! Watermelon has been used not only as a delicious dessert, but it’s also been used, many years ago, as a hollowed-out canteen for early pioneer travelers; it’s an ideal low-cal, low-fat diet food; and it’s often used by choir members as word fillers in songs.=)
