the smallest things

June 27, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

he
was
happy
though he rarely slept
a newborn night owl
a young mother
who longed for sleep,
uninterrupted sleep
sparkling black eyes, awake,
wide awake
tucking his head underneath her chin
they rocked through the wee hours
warm
downy soft
baby fresh
sometimes the smallest things
take up the most room in one’s heart

Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart. – A.A. Milne

Oh, I remember long nights like this rocking my baby, singing lullabies, and wishing that he or she would go back to sleep but loving holding my baby close at the same time. Love this!
