Yesterday I returned from a one week writer retreat. One week of retreating into my writing with like-minded people.
No television.
No traffic.
No laundry.
No cooking.
No responsibility except to write and even that was optional.
Yesterday I returned with fresh focus and stories to scrawl on paper before they disappear.
Yesterday I returned to the ATT Uverse man. He worked on our spotty cable connection. “In all my years, I’ve never seen this problem before,” he said. He looked all of twenty-five.
On a Sunday night he worked changing out remotes, checking lines, switching boxes, and adjusting cables while the Spurs handed the second playoff game to the Heat.
This morning as my first cup of coffee brewed, the morning weather forecast resonated into the kitchen. “Sunny with a high of 95 degrees.” The weatherman’s voice boomed.
The floor vibrated under my bare feet.
I never watched one minute of television at my writer retreat.
I never missed it.

Bahaha!! That cracks me up!
We don’t really watch television here. We don’t have any cable or satellite. We watch an occasional episode of I Love Lucy on the computer, but that is about it! I don’t miss it one bit. Of course, it has been about 6-7 years since I have had it so I guess I don’t know what I’m missing.

No Razorback football?? ๐

Haha on a rare occasion we go to my parents and watch a little Razorback football or basketball. We aren’t big into sports. I know, gasp!

I didn’t miss tv at HP either. We’d probably all be better off if we dumped them in the trash, but sometimes when I’m weary, a little diversion fills the bill.

Sometimes brainless television is just the ticket. But after the peaceful week at HP, the noise was obvious.

lol that’s funny, “In all his years,” and he’s 25. LOL.

I couldn’t agree more! My daughters thought we were crazy when we gave away our TV. I said, we haven’t turned it on in over six months, why keep it? Why make the TV the central focus of our living room? I love the silence around our house without that darn thing screaming at me.
In this day and age if there is a TV program that I ever really need to watch, I can watch it on the computer…”The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” is about the only thing that we have watched in a year, and only half a dozen episodes at that.
Enjoy the creative writing you will do without that TV!

Good for you! I’m not brave enough to completely do away with the television. But we don’t watch that much.

We don’t do television here-not because we choose to, but because we can’t get cable and there are too many trees surrounding our little cottage to manage an adequate signal. I don’t miss it a bit. Thom is another story. We do unwind at night with a Netlix show {actual dvds} so that’s nice.

Netflix is the way to go:))
