Sunday Letter: 08.11.19

August 11, 2019 By Talya Tate Boerner

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter Readers,

Today’s Sunday Letter is a wonder, not because it’s exceptionally marvelous or anything. Not at all. The fact that it exists is the small miracle. All throughout the past week, I’ve been overly confused about the day. Tuesday felt like Wednesday. Wednesday was Thursday in my mind. On Friday morning, John asked me, “Is today Wednesday or Thursday.”  See? It wasn’t just me. Our whole week was weird.

For the most part, I’ve been tied to my desk working on my book. Maybe that’s the reason for my confused state. Or maybe it’s the horrid humidity.

Yesterday, I did spend a few hours in Bentonville at Megaphone Summit (an influencer conference). The highlight for me was seeing some of the original Arkansas blogger ladies I met when I first began this blogging adventure. And by the way, I heard someone refer to me as “one of the old bloggers”—LOL—that’s true in more ways than one.Continue Reading

My Room and its View

My Room with a View

My Room and its View

When I sit on the couch with my Macbook or journal, I am usually absorbed in my work. My view is my computer screen or scribbly writing or messy edits. A few days ago, I’d been working for several hours without a break. (I recommend a brain break at least every hour, so I wasn’t following my own advice.) Anyway, I put away my edits, took my glass of tea, and moved to the other side of the couch for a slight change of scenery.

The house was silent. The streaming sunlight made the windows glow and the floors gleam.

After days of cold cloud cover, a tablespoon of sunlight uplifts, inspires, warms, tricks me into believing winter is over even when it isn’t.

I took a picture.

And then I studied the picture.Continue Reading

create a Creative Space

January 24, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner

from closet to creative space!

This guest room closet had nothing in it so I claimed it. Now an unused closet provides a creative space for writing, journaling, crafting, or whatever artistic endeavor strikes my fancy. And while the spot is small, small is ideal for my needs.

  • The room itself is quiet with no distractions.
  • If I have a houseguest, I can pull the curtain shut and hide the clutter. Not that craft projects could ever be clutter-y. (But they can.)
  • I haven’t done anything permanent. If I need to convert my creative space back to a closet, that’s an easy project, too.

I took a “before” picture, but I can’t find it. You’ll have to use your imagination which is pretty easy considering it really had nothing in it—a rod for hanging clothes and a shelf above, both which are still there. And FYI, my “before” happened way back in September. That’s when I first thought about doing this, moved the desk in, and then didn’t do anything else until last weekend.
