Savoring January

January 31, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner 2 Comments

Savoring January 2017

Did you blink? Today is the last day of January! I’ve done my best throughout January to savor the moments. You may or may not know I chose SAVOR as my One Little Word for 2017. And dangnabbit I plan to do it, even amid all the chaos surrounding us. The photo above depicts my visual effort to savor the month—one picture taken each day in January.

Savor—to taste, smell, relish, delight in. Doing something slowly.

Savoring FLAVOR…

I’ll start with food because that’s the first thing I imagine when I think of savoring something. In January, I cooked at home, a lot. And I came up with several new recipes including an easy cauliflower soup I’m pretty excited about. Let me know if you’re interested, and I’ll share the recipe on a later post. Simple and healthy, it has become my go-to sustenance for January.  Continue Reading

Mid-January Thinks and Ungoals

Mid-January thinks and ungoalsSince we’re on the backside of January, I thought I’d share my mid-January thinks and ungoals. If January is ideal for one thing, it’s thinking and planning. And re-thinking and re-grouping. January gives us a psychological clean slate.

Give me a clean slate and a piece of chalk and I will rule the world. ?

I know it’s early. Probably too early to call anything successful, but I’m feeling good about what I’ve done in the new year. Or what I’ve not done. I basically blocked off the entire month of January for myself. To write and rest and spend time with family. To think about what I want to do in 2017 and beyond. And I’m grateful to be in a place to do that.

No, I haven’t done any of the typical new year things. I haven’t cleaned out my closet or organized my desk. My junk drawer is still junky. Just yesterday, I bought my 2017 wall calendar. Tip—if you wait long enough you can purchase at 20% off. I haven’t worked out a single time other than walking the dogs and doing yoga once at home. Sorta.Continue Reading

Dear January,

January 1, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner 2 Comments

Dear January,

Dear January,

After the explosion of holiday glitter and year-end festivities, you provide a place of calm and quiet. We humans love to mark everything in stretches of time, and for those of us fortunate enough to see another new year, January provides a fresh start.  A new year. A chance to do things better during the next trip around the sun. I hope to build on the positive and leave behind the negative.

Painted in silver and white and shades of winter, January, I welcome the honesty you bring, your landscape real and raw. Continue Reading
