Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all my Sunday Letter friends!

Don’t forget to wear green. In case you’ve forgotten, the reason for green is because mischievous leprechauns can’t see that particular color. If you aren’t wearing green, they’ll pinch you. There’s probably a more historical reason, but that’s the story we heard in elementary school back when kids could pinch each other and no one complained with more than a giggle or a whine and maybe a shove on the playground.Continue Reading

Sunday Letter Spring Break Edition

Dear Sunday Letter Readers,

It seems everyone in Arkansas has been traveling this past week to fabulous destinations for spring break or anniversary trips or just because they can. (Yay for that!) I have Facebook friends in Maui, Portugal, Paris, and all across the sandy Florida beaches. Thank you for sharing pictures and allowing me to daydream along with you.

I was on Spring Break, too. In my own city. And it was fabulous. As I said in my last Sunday Letter, I didn’t plan to leave Fayetteville. I reality, the farthest John and I traveled was the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks, only 6.7 miles from our front door, where we spent two hours spring-cleaning the natives garden with fellow Arkansas Master Naturalists in-training.

It was the best sort of day.

Happy Earth Day!

Today we celebrate this planet we call home. Think about it. No matter our differences in beliefs, food preference, hair color, languages spoken, whatever—we all have Earth in common.  Everyone we’ve ever known, everyone we’ve read about, every ancestor who came before us, every poet and teacher, every couple in love, every villain, every knight in shining armor, every painful and joyful experience, every pet cherished and lost, every youthful dream, every discouraging notion, every seed planted, every battle won and lost—all of it came from this place. Our home. Planet Earth.

And so today fellow Earthlings, I have 10 Easy Ways to Celebrate Earth Day. Choose one or two and get your party on. These are simple, inexpensive, most are as free as the wind. Continue Reading
