I Dream of Pinterest…

October 23, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

My name is Talya, and I’m addicted to Pinterest where my cuisine is forever delectable and my front porch beyond Southern Living worthy. To escape the ordinary, I stroll into a peaceful world of barns or churches or a magical land filled with pots of paint and jugs of Mod Podge. Is this photo pinnable— ooooh maybe virally pinnable?…YES, I have a problem.

Last night I fitfully rearranged Pinterest boards in my dreams…

I Dream of Pinterest

This was written for GBE2: Blog On Week #127. Prompt: Write three unrelated nano-fiction stories consisting of exactly five sentences each. This is the first of three (maybe…).

an afternoon nap

GBE:2 Week #110 Writing Prompt: Indulgences…

The fan circled around, around, around.
The pull chain tap, tap, tapped in the breeze.
I tugged the blanket to my chin and stretched the length of the sofa.
Just for a moment.
After a steamy shower to wash away a morning spent weeding and fighting bamboo, the sofa welcomed me. Annabelle and Lucy curled near my feet and dozed. They too spent a busy morning in the hot backyard.
“A quick game of two on three,” Coach Graham tosses a ball my direction. Anita, Carrie, Annette and other junior high friends join in, quickly choosing sides. With each cut and screen and pivot, Converse shoes squeak against the shiny court. The ball echoes with every bounce pass. The gym air is forever saturated with the smell of salted popcorn and floor wax.
I jump, but the ball soars over my head and into the empty bleachers.
Coach blows the whistle ending practice.

Ending my nap.

Two hours later?

D is for Daydream

April 3, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

This week I am hosting Blog Hop #75 for The Writers’ Post. My theme is daydream...

My sister and I spent hours swinging in the backyard. Our swing set wasn’t as sturdy as the one on the school playground—if we soared too high it bumped and threatened to throw us over the chain link fence. Even so, we managed to swing away entire spring afternoons, daydreaming about things important at the time or nothing in particular.

During fourth grade recess, my friends and I sat in patches of clover stringing necklaces until the bell rang. Clover-filled play time stirred up daydreams that lasted through math period.

For twenty-something years I was a loan officer who daydreamed about writing a book. Today I am happily writing toward that goal. Of course, occasionally I dream of the paycheck I once earned at the bank…:)

When we become lost deep in a daydream, inspiration germinates. Sometimes we need to get lost to find ourselves.

What fills your daydreams?
