Saying NO, the power behind it, and news!

July 15, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner

Saying Yes Saying No

The power of saying no.

NO is a powerhouse of a word that opens up space for yes. A million years ago I majored in economics. And while I understand the concept of opportunity cost, I find it difficult to apply to my writing life. I want to write all the things. All the things take time.

My husband’s former co-worker (RIP B. Bowden) had a beautiful way of saying NO. “We have no interest in this deal on any level.”  I love this and always thought it was the equivalent business-speak for “Bless your heart.” End of story. NO room to come back and say, “Well, what if we do it this way?”

I say all this not to moan or preach or pontificate but simply to explain why these days I’m not blogging as often as I once did. Not blogging as much means I’m working on Book Two. Working on my new book means I haven’t been able to pitch freelance article ideas even though I really want to. Maybe I’m a slow writer. As Popeye says, I yam what I yam.Continue Reading

So what am I working on these days?

March 2, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner

What I'm up to these days...

What am I working on? Lots of things. I’m having a hard time concentrating on one particular thing because there’s so much I want to be doing, as well as things that need my attention.

Rabbits. I’ve been chasing rabbits. And speaking of rabbits, you must read my friend Gary Henderson’s post about Rabbit Holes. Especially you writers. I can so relate, and I’m sure you will too.

So here are my rabbits  projects.

Sequel: I’ve started on my sequel.? Continue Reading

2015 in review: top blog posts

December 28, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner

Top Posts 2015

What would year-end be without a little review and reflection? A regular week, I suppose. As a blogger, I like to look back to see which were my top blog posts. And by “top”, I mean those blog posts written in 2015 with the most page views. My most popular five posts of all time were written in 2013 and 2014, thanks in part to the power of Pinterest (which is much like compounding interest).

Looking back helps me look forward. Knowing what my readers connected with and related to helps me plan for 2016. (Whoa, saying 2016 sounds crazy. Remember ten minutes ago how we didn’t think we would survive Y2K?)

So here’s 2015 in review—my top blog posts all tied up in a bow. Plaid, of course. Continue Reading
