If I could, I’d give every single person a sprout bookmark, and I’d go to sleep tonight convinced the world is a better place.

And really, each date could serve as a writing prompt. For example: July 13, 1977. We’d been at the lake for four days already. We went every summer to celebrate my birthday. This year, my friend Judy Baker went with us. Three days ago, we celebrated my fifteenth birthday with strawberry cake and a sun-warmed watermelon. Soon, we would leave because Momma had to be home on Friday to do the farm payroll. But for now, we had sunburned noses and no worries whatsoever because it was July and we were fifteen.
