Packing for ICELAND!

May 19, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner 4 Comments

I'm going to Iceland!
Did I mention I’m going to Iceland? Pinch me, I am! And I should be packing for Iceland because my trip is SOON. But somehow I’ve become this person who puts off packing until the last possible minute. I wait and waitย and instead of just doing it, I spendย effortย calculatingย how much time I can delay said packing with the same precision my son once calculated the minimum grade he could scoreย on a calculus test yetย still get a B in saidย class.

Yeah.

And now instead of packing, I’m writing about packing.

My suitcase.

My suitcase isย inย the bedroom. That’s something. Like when the airplane reaches the gate but no one is allowed to board yet. Everyone stands and fidgets and stares at the plane through the terminal window wondering when it last had an oil change, relieved it at least arrived on time. When the announcement comes, passengers towing overfilled suitcasesย slipย past harried gate attendants and hoist these whale-like bodybagsย intoย cramped overhead space. I attempt to spotย who among them might go postal at thirty thousand feet. Because that seems to be a new thing.

See this pile of clothes?

This is pre-boarding for me.

Throughout the past few days, these clothes have been identified as possible passengers in my suitcase. Standbys.ย I won’t know who gets on and who gets bumped until I actually start packing.

Soon.

Like yesterday.

But seriously, I can’t believe this tripโ€”part vacation, part writer retreat/workshopโ€”is so close I can feel it in my nerve endings. And you’ll beย going with me, because I plan to post regular updates. Yay!

See you soon in Reykjavรญk.
