Barbie and Ken plus Gracie Lee!

November 18, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner 13 Comments

Barbie and Ken

Oh my goodness. I was invited to attend the Book Babes Book Club in Hot Springs on Monday and looky who was there—Barbie, Ken plus Gracie Lee! Well, I represented Gracie Lee, of course, but Cathy S (who invited me several months ago) brought along her original Barbie and Ken (and a second Barbie).

Ken was always the man with a Barbie on each arm.

Cathy went above and beyond not only by inviting Barbie and Ken, but take a look at these bicycle bookends! The books displayed between the bookends are all books I referenced in The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee.

What attention to detail. I love this so much.

I believe this was the 11th or 12th book club I’ve been invited to attend when my book was being discussed. I’ve been blown away by each one. This one was particularly enjoyable. Monica, the host for the night, has a gorgeous home. She made amazing soup!!! (and gave me the recipe because I may have begged). I did a reading and everyone laughed in all the right places. That’s always a relief.

Donna V made Nana’s Strawberry Cake. (We thought it was cool that she carried my Nana’s cake in her Grandmother’s vintage cake carrier.) I feel certain that Nana is happy that every book club I’ve attended has served her strawberry cake.

Thank you Cathy, Monica, Donna and the entire group of Hot Springs Book Babes.

The bookends came home with me. Like I said, blown away! Here they are at home on my writing desk. (The pedals really turn.) Must find Barbie & Ken…

Bicycle bookends

Oh and one more thing. One of the book club members had checked Accidental Salvation out from the library. SO, I got to see my book as a bonafide Garland County library book with the card thingy in front and everything. In fact, if you’ll note, it was due back on November 8. My book was an overdue library book. Haha, so cool.

Oh, what a wonderful book club. Love the bookends. (I’m afraid that your, Staci, or Lesa’s Barbie & Kens don’t look that good.) You and Staci always took your Barbies swimming in the fields, and Lesa cut all of their hair. Lol

That is beyond awesome. Not only was your book overdrawn, but such attention to detail!

You have some pretty amazing fans, I’d say. 🙂

This was such a fun night! I thought it was hilarious that they wanted to know if you really would swim in the yard after a big rain? Of course!

Those bookends are so cool! Love them. I’m thrilled at the response to your wonderful book. I want to be in a book club, but haven’t found one yet. Someday …

You’ll have to start your own! Also, you could maybe join the one I attended in Bryant.
