Q is for Quilt

April 19, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner 13 Comments

quilted by John’s Grandmother Siebenmorgen
Our home is filled with vintage quilts,
each a beautiful piece of artwork,
each as unique as the woman behind the craft.
Within the tight stitches, family history lives,
thoughts and feelings woven into cotton,
conversations trapped between layers of fabric.
Blankets of love to keep us warm.
Old and frayed, more precious than gold.
quilted by Pauline Boerner (my mother-in-law)
quilted by my aunts –
Virgie Johnson Stubbs & Rena Johnson Kennedy

quilted by Nana (Frances Johnson Creecy)

Love your quilt post, Talya. Such beautiful heirlooms to have that are both functional, artistic, and a special legacy to your heritage. Love it!

Gotta go practice my flute with our choir’s pianist for a while but when I get back, I’ll do my Q post. I’m thinking about it and letting it percolate in my brain.

Beautiful quilts. All things hold the energy of the people who use it so I can just imagine how much love these hold. Thanks for sharing.

These fabulous keepsakes are even better because they were all made by family memories.

    Thanks for stopping in!!
love your quilts. Looks like your quilts are a piece of your family history!! Mom has old family quilts and she still remembers some of the pieces as her dresses and her Dad’s overalls and curtains. Great meeting you!

I love quilts and quilting, but haven’t ever made a whole one on my own. I have a few from one of my grandmothers, and they look quite a bit like the ones you pictured above. I love heirlooms and all the history they represent!

    Great post.

Beautiful quilts, each one is unique and made with love and lots of hours of sewing. I’ve made a few in my time, but my little sister has made lots of them and is very good at it.
