Once upon a time there was a calendar…

January 3, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner 16 Comments

I blog because I love to write. I would blog if no one read my posts.
I am not a crafty blogger, yet I applaud all those talented bloggers who create a craft a day. I am in awe of people who fashion an entire wall unit from discarded wooden pallets found behind Home Depot. I am in awe enough to pin their pictures to my virtual bulletin boards on Pinterest, in case the urge strikes.

My blog focus is simply about stories. Telling stories through humor or heartache or pictures or poetry.
This is the story of my 2013 calendar and possibly my only semi-craft blog post for the year…
I LOVE this little D.I.Y calendar I received for Christmas. One page per month, blank other than the pre-printed calendar. The pages are clean and simple. The paper is heavy duty and 100% recycled.
There is open space for doodling and drawing, painting, stamping. For only $8.95, the possibilities are endless…
I couldn’t wait to start on January.
Before
After

At the end of the year, twelve pieces of art!

Of course a truly crafty blogger would easily make this entire project with blank card stock, printing the calendar as well as creating a monthly design…. I’d rather write about it.

… and next January have all those pages individually framed for wall art, a la Debby R?? Great idea, if only I could write and/or draw! :/ Definitely pin-worthy though, just in case!

Maybe so! But these pages are really small:)

Very nice! You are definitely multi-talented, Talya! You are a talented writer as well as a talented artist. The artwork you’ve added to your ‘January’ page is nicely balanced and pleasing to the eye as there is a very nice aesthetic quality to your artwork. I’m very impressed with your creative skill levels as a writer and an artist!

Coming from an artist, I’m very flattered. But really, it was only a five minute doodle:) Fun though!

Yes it is fun, and what can I say…you do doodle very well. Your artwork here, even if it is a doodle, is as good or better than a lot of the artwork I’ve seen done by professional artists who worked for a greeting card company where I was once an employee. I know you know what company I’m referring to, and maybe you should submit some of your writings, photos, and artwork. Just sayin’…

I liked the drawering (note the fancy way of pronouncing it!). You must post them each month for us to see what deviltry you’ve conjured up!

All this is great, but you gotta get back to your book!!! I spent parts of 3 different days one one chapter (started at DH!) about a horse colicking (for the conflict, you know). I ran it by a horsewoman and had to rewrite nearly the entire episode. Little did I know about horses, I discovered. All I can draw to this day are smiley faces!

I’ve been working on my book every day. I’m working on it right now – until I saw your comment pop up that is… Anyway, I’m making great progress. My goal was to be up to 130 pages by today and as of this morning I’m on page 131:))

And if you recall, I was only on page 25 or so at DH….

A TRULY crafty blogger would Martha Stewart all up in that thang and make the paper and the ink from items found while walking through the forest. And they’d use a quill made from a feather they found in the same place.

    🙂

Great news on your progress on the book. How many total pages do you anticipate?
