too much to dream

October 9, 2012 By Talya Tate Boerner 10 Comments

Do you dream? I suppose everyone dreams, but some say they can’t remember their dreams. I dream all night every night. Crazy, vivid dreams, in color and often with music.
What would Freud think?

Two nights ago I tubed down the Rio Grande River
on a white inner tube, the sort that little kids use before learning to swim. It was just after dawn and the water was cold and fast. During this adventure, I made a stop at an old museum near the bank of the river. Two stories with wide-plank wooden floors, the museum was filled with Al Capone artifacts. Back in the water, I finished my tubing trip and dream with a splash as the Rio Grande fed into a secluded cove at Lake Norfork.

Usually I can tie my dreams to something that happened the prior day. Something someone said, something I saw or a fleeting thought that passed through my head.

I did recently drive over to see the Mississippi River at the Osceola River Port. Maybe it reminded me of the Rio Grande? On Saturday afternoon, I made a quick trip inside the Lepanto Museum while at the Terrapin Derby. And of course, the Bat Cave is filled with artifacts – not exactly Al Capone related, but Momma does have gangster tendencies.

Yesterday I read my friend Gary Henderson’s stories about the Zombie Apocalypse. I didn’t sleep at all last night.
Your fault Gary.

haha…I wouldn’t have slept, either! Scary movies and scary stories make for scary nightmares for me, as does a big plate of spaghetti right before bedtime.=) Anyhow, I wish I could decipher dreams because I think they are very interesting. In the art world, Surrealism is based on dreams and symbols, and I think the dream you describe here would make an interesting Surrealist painting…And yeah…lol…we all know your Mom is a closet Gangsta…lol…and that’s one of the many reasons we all love her so much!

I have vivid, crazy dreams too; it must run in the family. The night before the LSAT I had a dream where I was taking the test but the proctors started the timers while all of the test-takers were in line to register, so we all had to race to our desks and start. Then everyone except for me seemed to not care about the test because they all just started talking to each other and the proctors weren’t doing anything to stop it. Then the proctors came around and starting tagging peoples’ bags, again all while I was trying to take my test. It was part LSAT, part Survivor challenge. At the end of the first section I cancelled my score and yelled at the proctors. I’m glad the actual test wasn’t so crazy.

That’s so funny, Kelsey – I think you also inherited your mom’s great writing skills! BTW – please let us know how the test came out! ๐Ÿ™‚ Cindy “Lu”

PS – I dream sometimes, especially after doing a particular thing – repeatedly. For example, we ran flu shot clinics in schools every day this past week. We use cardboard and sharpies to make numbers to put on tables (to tell people which table to go to) – these numbers are glued on (hmmm…don’t know what they are glued onto – long sticks is all I can figure or tongue depressors glued together) Anyhow…we put the sticks in the center of toilet paper rolls [and set them on the tables] to make them stand up. In my dream, one of the RN’s was like a drum major, directing us all to march with the sticks (holding them in a way to keep them balanced inside the toilet paper rolls)and around the gym we marched to the Razorback fight song. It’s so funny – in my dreams, just like swimming – I can walk normally again. I long to dream.
