There’s Nothing Common about the Common Buttonbush

Common Buttonbush

I’ve been enamored with the Common Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) since I first noticed it growing wild along the shoreline of Lake Norfork. Even when I knew nothing about this plant, it’s fragrant pom-pom flowers fascinated me. Seriously, I love any plant that looks Dr. Seuss-inspired.

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter friends o’ mine,

The past week was a good one. The heavens blessed us with a a few glorious rain showers, I managed to choose a sweet watermelon at the grocery store, and John smoked the best ribs I’ve had since Thomas Tate died. I even went to the gym a few times + worked on my next book too.

And guess what?

Tomorrow is my birthday.

Today I’m celebrating all the good things, and reminding myself that even though we are sitting at the very top of summer’s Ferris wheel (I always think the downhill side of summer starts immediately after my birthday-ha), there is still much to enjoy during these hot and humid days. Continue Reading

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

I hope this letter finds you happy and healthy and filled with joy. Today is Easter Sunday, resurrection day for those of us belonging to the Christian faith. While I have readers who do not celebrate Easter, I believe we can all set aside time on this day to celebrate goodness and peace and grace.

The world sure does need it.
