Leaving the Lake. Leaving Munger Place…

July 26, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner

Lake Norfork morning

This is our last morning at the lake. The early sun breaks pink through the fog, and the entire view from our porch is ethereal. We’ve enjoyed a great week with family in one of our favorite places. Lots of laughter. Too much food and drink, but that’s part of the fun. I’m ready to be home.

Home.

The word has a different meaning to us right now. Worth Street, our beautiful historic home in Munger Place, won’t be ours much longer. John and I have decided the time is right to sell. Our plan has always been to move home to Arkansas, and this will get us one step closer.

I am excited about this change, yet I will miss Worth Street and Munger Place. The house, neighborhood, friends, the convenience of fabulous grocery stores and Tex-Mex around the corner, my Promise of Peace garden.

More on this later…

For now, we are ready to be home at Worth Street.

Independence Day, Munger Place Style

July 1, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner

Our house. Dallas, Tx

Our neighborhood, Munger Place Historic District in East Dallas, boasts the largest collection of prairie style homes in the United States. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, the homes were designed to blend with the prairie. Wide porches. Overhanging eaves. Flat lines. Open living spaces with a central chimney. Munger Place is Americana. She looks best to me all dressed up for Independence Day.

Here are a few pictures I snapped around the neighborhood.

I love this vintage inspired bunting. (Or maybe it is vintage?)

Lighting the Way to Autumn

August 24, 2012 By Talya Tate Boerner

Lighting the way to autumnSeemingly out of nowhere, spider lilies bloom in Munger Place. Yesterday the bulbs were hidden underneath matted ground cover and thirsty summer grass. Suddenly they make an early morning appearance, randomly scattered, tall and sincere on leafless stems, blooming the instant late summer sunlight sends its subtle message. Surprise lilies are a sure sign that autumn is on the way.

Had I known the time was at hand, I would have watched them grow through the night.

Mother Nature’s nonchalant, often unrecognized message is bittersweet. The end of carefree summer days, lake trips, lightning bugs.

First day of kindergarten. First day of college. Change.

Hatch chile peppers and sweet corn pack the produce aisles. Fresh and fragrant. Watermelons and raspberries are priced to move, tired.
Soon the trees will be on fire. Orange, Red, Yellow. Hiding summer. Lighting the way to winter.
I dream of The Great Pumpkin.
