Turns out, I’m not a princess.

January 13, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner 10 Comments

Turns out I'm not a princess. And I don't live in La La Land.Turns out, I’m not a princess.

Not there was ever really a doubt of my lineage. But still, Papa Creecy called me a princess once or twice or a zillion times. Uncle Rex treated me like a princess. And there were a few times in college (ahem) I felt like one. Sorta.

I’m not. A princess. This truth was 100% confirmed last night. Actually this morning.

But first. Yesterday afternoon, I saw La La Land. And I LOVED it so so much. And the more I think about it, the more I LOVE it. Mia (Emma Stone) is adorable wearing swishy-skirted throwback dresses with slightly, I did-nothing-whatsoever (but probably quite a lot) to get these natural waves in my radiant red hair. She’s fresh-faced and optimistic. Princess-like in such a charming way.Continue Reading

It’s a Tarzan thing.

July 18, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner 3 Comments

It’s true. I have a thing for Tarzan. We go way back. As a kid I never missed a Saturday afternoon Tarzan movie, especially when Johnny Weissmuller played the part. He was legit . A hero. A survivor. He was one with the jungle and rode an elephant like nobody’s business.

I wanted to be Jane. I wanted to live in a treehouse and do the yell and fill out a loincloth dress and have a chimpanzee friend and never go to school ever again.

But that didn’t happen.Continue Reading

on the Fifth Day of Christmas…six movies, one little word

December 29, 2014 By Talya Tate Boerner 6 Comments

Fifth Day of Christmas

On the Fifth Day of Christmas, the sunrise is glorious, and I’m happy to be on the tail-end of the crud. During this last week of 2014, I’ve done nothing but watch movies and guzzle cough medicine. The good stuff with codeine. John’s been supportive of my movie-watching even though he’s officially on vacation and probably had more exciting things in mind.

So far we’ve seen Nebraska, Divergent, American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave, The Words, and The Book Thief. Probably more even.

Obviously, I haven’t been writing. But, I’ve been thinking about writing. And I’ve been thinking about my One Little Word for 2015.

Are you familiar with the One Little Word project?

Bottom line: find One Little Word for the upcoming year—a word with heartfelt significance—and use that word to help push you toward desires and goals both personally and professionally. Sound cheesy? I think it has merit. (Learn more about it HERE from my friend Jacqueline Wolven.)

I’ve never had a word before. But I’ve followed along as several of my friends have selected words that subsequently shaped their years. Words like Focus. Fearless. Dream. Thrive. Journey.

One little word can have a huge impact.

I do believe in the power of positive thinking. Small gestures. Good deeds. One little word.

I’ve narrowed my word choice down, and now I’m toying with three. Stay tuned.

Do you have a word for 2015?
