Cold Morning

November 19, 2017 By Talya Tate Boerner 4 Comments

Cold Morning: an acrostic from this morning’s writing practice.

Cold Morning

Crystals cover slanted rooftops. A cold night
Offers a glittery morning.
Leaves, already brilliant with fall, still sleep, muted and
Dreamy with frost. The whole world

Magically rests beyond windows fogged with breath.
On this Sunday before Thanksgiving Day, I
Remember the holiday meals of my childhood at
Nana’s house on the home place.
I relive cozy afternoons with her,
Near to me, she still feels all these years later.
Gentle and generous even in death.

Nana

Happy Sunday, on this cold morning. I’m counting down to Thanksgiving. Time to make that grocery list and check it twice! Four sleeps, y’all…

so what have I been doing?

A couple of people asked me yesterday, “What have you been doing?” Okay, really, no one has asked me that, but maybe someone has been wondering because I haven’t blogged for several days. Several days is a long time for me. So here’s what I’ve been doing—I’ve been writing plenty. I’m working on something new. And, not to jinx myself, I like the way it’s going so far.

In keeping with my “do something creative everyday” motto, last night I went with my creative friend, Laurie (See Laurie Write & JunqueRethunque), to a watercolor class. Fayetteville artist, Beth Woessner taught the class (follow her on Instagram @studiobeth22). It was my first ever watercolor class and so much fun. Continue Reading

2015 in review: top blog posts

Top Posts 2015

What would year-end be without a little review and reflection? A regular week, I suppose. As a blogger, I like to look back to see which were my top blog posts. And by “top”, I mean those blog posts written in 2015 with the most page views. My most popular five posts of all time were written in 2013 and 2014, thanks in part to the power of Pinterest (which is much like compounding interest).

Looking back helps me look forward. Knowing what my readers connected with and related to helps me plan for 2016. (Whoa, saying 2016 sounds crazy. Remember ten minutes ago how we didn’t think we would survive Y2K?)

So here’s 2015 in review—my top blog posts all tied up in a bow. Plaid, of course. Continue Reading
