Visit Denver Botanic Gardens with me!

August 22, 2018 By Talya Tate Boerner

Denver Botanic Gardens

Oh my! Last weekend, John and I spent a few hours at the Denver Botanic Gardens. What a gorgeous garden chockfull of mature hedges, unusual plantings, native Colorado beauties, exotic water lilies, profuse succulent gardens, absolute heaven on earth.

The dahlia above☝was as large as a dinner plate.

I took a million photos (#slightexaggeration) and could have stayed the entire weekend.

Guess what? As members of the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks… our admission was FREE. Reciprocity is a great perk of membership! (On my bucket list—to visit all the reciprocal gardens…how cool would that be?)

Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite pictures. Enjoy them. Pretend you are at the Denver Botanic Gardens and make plans to visit the next time you’re in Denver. It’s truly a magnificent place. I was a kid on sugar overload zipping along taking pictures and not getting the names of most these beauties.

The pictures don’t do justice to the flowers or the gardens.

Do they ever?

Why go to a writer conference?

August 16, 2018 By Talya Tate Boerner

Why go to a writer conference

Why go to a writer conference? (Or any conference for that matter.) Because there’s a huge upside beyond the incredible pool, breakfast buffet, and time away from responsibility of home.

I recently returned from the annual Florida Authors and Publishers Association Conference (FAPA) in Orlando, and thought I’d not only summarize my experience but possibly convince you to attend that event you’ve been sitting on the fence about. Sometimes we don’t do the things we want to do because that little voice in our head discourages us.

You shouldn’t spend money on yourself. You could use that time to do such and such. You aren’t a real writer.

Evil little voice, just hush.

Okay, to clarify, the conference I attended was for authors, publishers, and other related vendors—not technically a writer conference—but the topics presented were those that writers working toward publication need to know. And even though I’m discussing an author conference, I believe the same benefits result from most any type event.

What are these benefits? Continue Reading

Sunday Postcard: 06.24.18

June 24, 2018 By Talya Tate Boerner

Sunday Postcard

Today I’m sending a Sunday Postcard instead of a letter. I just got home from a week at the lake, and I’m not organized enough to write a letter. Still, I wanted to say hi.

Postcards are a fun way to send greetings, a small slice of travel delivered to someone’s mailbox.

When I was a kid, I loved to send postcards to friends when I was away on summer vacation. Or I sent them back home to my parents and little sister from camp.

Did you?

There wasn’t much room on the card to write all my exciting travel news, but I always ended with wish you were here.

Even when I didn’t.

Who wanted their parents tagging along to cheerleader camp?

Not me.

postcard from meAnother thing about the postcard…usually I arrived home before my postcard.

Sorry I cheated this week.
Longer letter later!
