Sunday Letter ~ April 2024

April 7, 2024 By Talya Tate Boerner

Sunday Letter

Hello Sunday letter friends and happy April to you! April is one of my favorite months for so many reasons. The dogwoods in our neighborhood are in full bloom making a dog walk downright magical. Isn’t it incredible how quickly the world greens up when the right time comes?

Finally, we can spend lots of time in the garden.

Butterflies and bees are back, milkweed is coming up, and although I’ve not yet seen a hummingbird, my feeder is hanging just outside our kitchen window.

My sister’s birthday is this month, so there’s a party in our future. Yay!

Earth Day happens in April too. Of course, everyday is Earth Day at our house.

With so much craziness in the world, April came along just in time. I stop to inhale the familiar fragrance of a deep purple iris and remember there is still plenty of good all around. Because good isn’t loud and rude, sometimes we have to step away from the fray to see it.Continue Reading

Sunday Letter ~ March 2024

Sunday Letter

Dear Sunday Letter peeps~

Welcome to the rollercoaster weather days of March. March is extremely predictable in her unpredictability. Notice how varied the temperatures will be over the next few weeks. Dreary and cold. Stormy. Sunny, warm days that trick you into wanting to plant tomatoes. The truth is we could still have snow. (Shhh!)

March loves to remind us that we aren’t completely out of the winter woods yet. And how about her howling winds? Hold on to your garden hat lest it sails skyward and becomes snagged by a tree branch.

Have you ever seen a bird nest built from a hat taken by the wind? The busy finches could definitely make it happen this month.Continue Reading

Sunday Letter: February 2024

February 4, 2024 By Talya Tate Boerner

Sunday Letter friends~

Holy-moly! Welcoming February feels like a major accomplishment, like we scaled the highest, most difficult month of the year, which was icy and treacherous at times and definitely teeth-chattering cold, and now we can almost see clear through to spring. Oh, I’m sure winter will have plenty more to say about the matter, but a few days of false spring has me pretending the season is behind us.

Yes, I’m fickle when it comes to winter. The first beautiful snowfall is thrilling to me. The second one too. But after a string of cold, gray days, I have to dig a little deeper to appreciate the beauty. It’s the blue sky I crave most.

Seems to me the Christmas season should extend through January 31, and February 1 should mark the beginning of the new year. Mid-January is when we need tinsel and twinkle lights the most.
