a simple week after a busy week

June 22, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner

My first week home after nearly two weeks traveling was a nice blur of doing nothing much. It always takes me a few days to get back into my regular writing routine, and there are the accompanying chores that go along with traveling—the unpacking and laundry doing and reading mail and paying bills and pulling weeds and all those things conveniently forgotten while out of town. Things I need to do immediately yet want to ignore so I can get back to writing. Words I can’t write while there are things nagging at me.

So I did those chores, but mostly I tried to settle back in and recharge by enjoying the simple things.

I spiffed up my porch flowers. Out with the wilted pansies, in with fresh summertime blooms.

Sea Gifts

June 16, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner

Sea GiftsThe best part of my recent book tour through Florida had very little to do with my book tour through Florida. It was more about the people I met, the sights I saw, the food I tasted, the things I felt and learned. Time passed at a leisurely pace, my mind felt open and boundless. Sea gifts. A good thing.

The first time I saw the sea I was young and we were in Mexico, on the Pacific side, and I found sand dollars and brought them home. I’ve never forgotten those early impressions—the vastness of the ocean, the salty breeze, palm trees and sandy dunes. The seashore was a place of myths, miracles, history, science, the unexplained and remarkable.

A place for thinking.
A place for not thinking at all.Continue Reading

Scenes from a Book Club

June 5, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner

Scenes from a Book ClubY’all—one of the most fun things about being an author is being invited to attend a book club when your own book is being discussed! I’ve already participated in three book clubs in Texas (one via Skype), and I just attended my first one in Fayetteville last Thursday night.

Through the years, I’ve been part of various book clubs. Each has involved great food, lively conversation, adult beverages, and (sometimes) a book discussion. Not necessarily in that order.

Thursday night’s book club had all the elements for a roaring good time. It helps that everyone loved my book and had lots of insightful questions. This is yet another unexpected thrill to my writing adventure.
