Lucy and Annabelle go to Wilson Park

September 23, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner

Lucy and Annabelle go to Wilson Park

On the day before the last day of summer, Lucy and Annabelle went to Wilson Park. The weather was perfect, as you might imagine Autumn-Eve-Eve to be. Wilson Park, Fayetteville’s oldest park, is a 22.75-acre oasis within walking distance of our house. And, a river runs through it. Well, actually a creek—Scull Creek. As Lucy and Annabelle stood watching from the bridge above, it was as though they understood the immenseness of the place beyond our spot in the Ozark Mountains—that the water beneath them would join the Illinois River and eventually flow into the Gulf of Mexico. The world is astonishing, even for dogs.

Fayetteville Find: Fox Trot Boutique

August 27, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner

Fox Trot Boutique, Fayetteville, ArFox Trot Boutique is such an exciting find, y’all! Owner, Carly Rae Overbey, hails from Kentucky and grew up in retail. Her family opened “a store” in 1955 that has evolved into a fine home and garden destination on the banks of the Rockcastle River.  After graduating from University of Kentucky with a degree in Fiber Arts and Textiles, Carly worked five years for J. Peterman Company. (Yes, J. Peterman Company is real and not just a Seinfeld thing.) A position with mega-retailer, Walmart, brought Carly to Northwest Arkansas, but after two years, she was ready to get back to a smaller, local business environment. She opened Fox Trot about a year ago.

I only recently discovered it.Continue Reading

After reading it, I’ve let the story percolate in my mind. And I’ve avoided reviews to keep from being swayed. My opinion is mixed. The things I like about the book, I really, really, like. The things I dislike still make me cringe two weeks later.Continue Reading
