We southern girls are all about the party favor, am I right? The way I see it, if people will go to the trouble of coming to one of my book signings, they won’t be leaving empty handed. So in keeping with the whole GraceGritsGarden theme, I’ve been making seed packets for my next book signing in Little Rock. If you live in the area, I hope you’ll plan to join me at WordsWorth Books on Saturday, April 2 from 3:00 – 4:30. And if you do, you’ll leave with one of these little seed packets.

Even if you live elsewhere and can’t come to my book signing, making seed packets is a fun project and a great way to store and share seeds with friends and neighbors. Kids can get in on this project, too. I know moms with kids will soon be looking for summer activities for the kiddos…
Labels are easy to make, and there are lots of templates online. Options for your packets are limited only by your time and imagination.
Do you remember when I made a dorky video about how to harvest coneflower seeds? Well, I used the seeds I harvested during that video to make these packets. (A package of 100 small clear bags is less than $1.50 at Hobby Lobby.) If you don’t have your own seeds, there are lots of places to buy bulk seeds online including The Seed Guy in Bella Vista, Arkansas.
As I made these coneflower packets, I thought to myself, “Self, you really should figure out a way to do this without using plastic.”
So for my zinnia seeds, I made paper packets using various scrapbook paper I had on hand. With a few folds (no glue or tape), I used my labels to seal them. Easy, inexpensive and way greener.
But I gotta say, I love these polka dot paper craft sacks. They’re made by The Paper Studio in Oklahoma City (practically local). And they were around $2.50 for 20. I have a thing for polka dots. Really, I do.
Seriously, these are as fun as a package of Fruit Striped gum.
