To say I am excited to see you would be an understatement. You, my friend, mark the beginning of change. Change of season, change of attitude, change in the colors outside my kitchen window.
A new box of crayons, that’s what I crave. An entire package of number two pencils. And paper clips for clipping things and a ruler for marking off the days until that first true cold snap.
The hillside is alight with wild lilies, scattered like fireworks. A final salute to summer. I marvel and wonder at such resilience.
I want time to slow, September, so that I can feel autumn arrive on my doorstep, relish time spent with friends, savor the food I eat.
Write better.
Remember more.
Dream in crayon colors.
Dance until the night becomes a brand new day.
September, what do you expect of me?
