Lake Child

July 14, 2012 By Talya Tate Boerner

Momma, Daddy, Me, Staci
at the lake
In our family we count down to the lake much like Christmas. Only its better because there’s no shopping stress. Throw some flip flops, t-shirts and bathings suits in a bag and hit the road. There is nothing better.
Of course bathing suit shopping can be extremely stressful, but I don’t much worry about that any more either…
All the kids in our family were born and bred to be lake rats, just as they were raised to love the Razorbacks, country music and cotton.  It takes a special combination of nature and nurture to fully grow into a lake child.

No more sleeps!!!

I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore. . . .I hear it in the deep heart’s core. – William Butler Yeats

And jump off one for me too! It seems like when I was young when most of my friends said they were ‘going to the lake’ – somehow, they meant Greers Ferry. Back then, I always thought to myself – why would anyone want to go there when you get to cross the ferries at Norfork! I never did go to Greers except after Courtney was born – we went there for several cook-outs and swimming when she was little because we live just 45 minutes from there now. I did, however, make an overnight trip once, (with DeAnn)over the hills and through the woods trying to get to Greers from Norfork – we hoped to see some friends we knew who were at Greers. We got lost and it was spooky taking backroads we knew nothing about – but we laughed until we cried. Never did get there (at least I don’t think so) but we never forgot the trip! Love all your memories, Tal! Your cousin
