S is for Sunrise

Sunrise
glows rosy,
peeking
through windows
stirring
my thoughts so
awash 
with promise.
A dove
sings wooo-wooo,
morning
has broken,
a new
day awaits.

    As I was reading it, I thought of that other song, “Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy….” John Denver, I think.

  4. I have always loved that song. Was it written by Kris Kristofferson? His name just came to mind when I listened to the song.Loved the poem also. That is one of our pecan trees in the picture, right? Lots of fond memories come flooding back when I see the pictures you made last year on the farm.

    • It was written in the 1930’s as a Christian hymn then made popular by Cat Stevens in the 1970’s. It was the first song Mrs. Brasfield had us sing in choir at Rivercrest. I was hooked from that first day. I don’t know if Kris Kristofferson ever sang it or not. This is the tree in front of the dining room window.

I’ve seen the sunrise many times, and it wasn’t from getting up early…it was mostly from staying up too late which actually when you think about it, it’s really early…in the morning, that is…so before I confuse myself anymore, I’ll just super awesome job on the poem, and great choice for the letter “S.” I actually thought you might use “S” for Superman and how much your husband, John, looks like the Man of Steel.=)…Sorry, but I don’t care much for Alec Baldwin…and Yes, he does look like Superman!=)
