Start a Backyard Phenology Practice

How to Start a Backyard Phenology Practice

Hey there, nature lovers 🌼—I’m excited to share some fun news with you! This summer, I’ve been working on a special project, and it’s ready for YOU.

During the past three years, I’ve been spreading my love of backyard phenology to anyone who will listen—Arkansas garden clubs, master gardening groups, and other cool organizations. Now, because there has been lots of interest in backyard phenology (yay!), I’ve created a workbook and a 36-month phenology wheel journal. These were specifically designed to help you start tracking the wonders of nature right outside your kitchen window.

And guess what?

YOU are the first to learn of these new products. 🎉 (This post contains affiliate links.)

First up, the workbook.

Exploring Nature: A Beginner’s Guide to Backyard Phenology

This is an easy-to-read instructional workbook that highlights basic phenology information, including ways to track backyard nature, a supply list, helpful sources, and pages from my own phenology journal. It’s fun, approachable, and user-friendly for kids and adults.

Here’s the front cover, which I think is bee-u-ti-ful!

And here’s the back cover:

A sneak peek of a few of the inside pages:

With colorful and inspirational examples, this 37-page paperback (large print) workbook is a real family-friendly resource, perfect for adults and kids!

Did you know there are many benefits to a regular nature journaling practice? It’s all detailed inside.

🌻

Next up, the accompanying journal…

Backyard Phenology 36-Month Journal

I created this journal for those who prefer to have pre-drawn blank templates (rather than drawing one yourself each month).

Tip: There’s no need to wait until January to start recording your backyard nature. You can start any month of the year!

Here’s the front cover:

And back cover:

Inside pages are blank wheels:

Like the workbook, the journal is also a paperback printed on premium paper for a sturdy feel. There are 36 blank wheels plus 36 blank pages for your artistic flair. And, there are two example pages to guide you. (This journal is best used with colored pencils, crayons, and light watercolor markers.)

🌻

And looky what else…

Backyard Phenology Colored Pencils are available exclusively on my website! 🌈 I have a limited supply, so when they are gone, they’re gone.

These twelve pencils are dual-sided, giving you twenty-four vibrant shades. Packaged in an eco-friendly tube, they’re perfect for tossing in your purse or backpack and taking your creativity on the go!

Ordering Info

There are several ways to get your hands on these books:

  1. Order the phenology workbook and/or journal directly from Amazon by clicking on the hyperlinks. (This is probably the quickest way.)
  2. Order both books and the colored pencils from my website store HERE. You can save a little $$ by purchasing all three products in a bundle, but you also have the option to individually purchase whichever products you prefer. In other words, if you already have a cabinet filled with art supplies, you may not want another set of colored pencils. If you prefer to draw your own templates, no need to buy the journal. See?
  3. Come to one of my events and buy them in person. Click HERE for my upcoming event schedule.

Questions? Just ask.

I hope you’ll help me spread the joy of nature by sharing this post with all your nature-loving friends, awesome science teachers, and devoted gardening buddies! Let’s celebrate the beauty of the natural world together, shall we? 🌿💚
