Dear Sunday Letter friends,
Since we last “talked”— Fayetteville received nearly seven inches of rain, and we had our first freeze/heavy frost. We saw a gorgeous Blue Moon, and, BOO, John and I skipped Halloween.
Now, we move on to Election Day week. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried.
No matter which candidate wins, I am worried about what might happen following the election. With cities boarding up downtown areas and Walmart removing guns, it seems we are truly entering a dystopian time. If push comes to shove and we end up living in The Hunger Games or The Handmaiden’s Tale, I’m not sure the outdoor survival class I took at Baylor (aka Backpacking and Camping which was a physical education credit), will serve me all that well, even though I did learn to tie a bunch of knots.
Sorry. I don’t mean to be an alarmist.
The Holidays
Yes, we completely skipped Halloween this year, as did most in our neighborhood. A few creative families prepared candy bags and distributed them in a socially distanced way, but we chose to watch football all day. Even though both our teams lost, college game day is always a good way to pass a Saturday.
Hear this: we shall NOT skip Thanksgiving or Christmas. Lord willing, there will be turkey and pie. I may even go all out with my Christmas decorations this year, putting them up early even, just to make our world a little more festive and filled with holiday spirit. Because why not?
This year especially we need to give thanks and eat pie. Lots of pie.
Daylight Saving
Did you remember to set your clocks back last night (or this morning)?
Daylight saving time ended, and we fell back. There was a time when I LOVED falling back and gaining another hour. When I was a single mom with young kids and a busy job, I absolutely coveted the extra hour that came when daylight saving time ended.
Now? Not so much.
And this year in particular?
Ha. It’s just rude. A cruel joke.
This would have been the perfect year to end the nonsense of daylight saving time and carry us one hour closer to 2021.
Late Blooms
Even with several frigid mornings and a heavy frost, we still have a bit of color. I admire these last blossoms. They are trying with all their might to fully bloom, to brighten our days.
So before they leave us, I will give them their moment in the chilly sunshine, their spotlight. No matter how crazy the year has been, the garden did its job this year, and for that I am extremely grateful.
Believe it or not, I am still harvesting Trombetta squash!
(blurry picture but you get the idea)
I’ve been harvesting squash blossoms too, and plan to stuff and fry them this week. Maybe today.
My Sunday Letter is short today and—yikes—I have nothing to report from Momma this morning. BUT come back Tuesday for a fun Election Day surprise!

Oh I truly needed Harry Nilsson this morning. I am still loving the flowers on my morning walk.
