I love love love this time of year. This time of year right before Christmas. This time of year when the days are pale and cold, and the bundling up to go for a walk takes as long as the walk itself.
Yesterday, I read half a book and napped on the couch underneath blankets. Two warm schnauzers curled next to me. I felt a little under the weather, a little tired, a little like maybe I needed to hibernate the afternoon away. So I did. Dreaming away the cold. Sunday afternoon is good for that.
And we went for three long, frigid walks. This time of year, even the ordinary becomes sprinkled in glitter.
The anticipation of Christmas, of family and friend time, of food and fun and lots of laughter—that’s what comes this time of year for me. I wish you all the same.
We’re two days away from winter solstice. And six sleeps til Christmas!

Brrrr!! Baby it’s cold outside. Christmas is a coming. So excited.

Refreshing for sure! Maybe just a tad warmer.

What is the “ball” in your first photo?
Gary D. Henderson says
That is the ball of a sweetgum tree. I know because I have five of them in my yard. The tree, not the balls. For each tree, I have about 348679128759186792846018790587 balls.
Talya Tate Boerner says
Haha Gary. My next door neighbor has one so we have 8908908788676785875 balls too.
Talya Tate Boerner says
Ian, ball from the sweetgum tree. Not good to step on one. Especially not barefoot…
debbie says
We once paid our daughter and her friend 5cents each for every gum ball they picked up out of our yard. We had to take out a loan to pay up⁄
Loved the pictures. It was 3 degrees at the lake Sunday morning! BRRRRRR
Talya Tate Boerner says
Haha sweet story!

It snowed here, too.. I’ve had about four days of the most beautiful snow. Two to three inches, like glitter everywhere. Gorgeous.
But it’s been cold!
Talya Tate Boerner says
Love it!
