The Angels Weep

December 17, 2012 By Talya Tate Boerner 14 Comments

Wild with wonder, the excitement builds. Only
Eleven days ’til Christmas! Counting down, dreaming, better not pout…
Eagerly awaiting a Santa who will never come. NO!
Praying, weeping,
Inciting outrage at God and guns. Mankind is
Numb, nostalgic for a simpler time, when
Good triumphed evil.

Angels, mere babies with
No chance at love or life, forever
Gone. Sweet innocence lost. Visions of sugarplums
Erased by dark madness. My soul is
Limp. Thin.
Sad.

Awesome! and very poignant poem at this time in our Nation’s history. And you are right in your poem that people will/and do blame God and guns. Though God was kicked out of our schools decades ago, I know He was there for each of those young murdered children before, during, and after the shooting, and He took each of them home to Heaven where there are no more tears or fears or pain of any kind..Also, it breaks my heart when I try to imagine the extreme and intense emotional pain the parents of these young children are going through, especially as they begin the funerals, today. I can’t imagine the severe heartache it is for a parent to bury their child. I remember when my boys were this age, and every night before I went to bed, I would go into their bedrooms and put my hand on their little chests to check to see if they were breathing properlay and to feel their little heartbeats. Then I would say a silent prayer over them for God to keep them safe. I couldn’t imagine losing any of them. My prayers are that God will give the parents of these murdered babies peace in their hearts, minds, and souls. For as we know, God, the Father, knows their pain, firsthand, when His Son died a severely painful and horribly agonizing death on the Cross…Also, Connecticut is one of the most fierce States in gun control laws, which didn’t help these school children, principal, and teachers, one bit. I’m assuming the murderer knew he would have no opposition when he went into a ‘gun-free zone.’ I can’t help but think that if the principal, or the teachers, or at least one person at the school was allowed to have a gun to protect the inhabitants of the school, perhaps no one would have died. From what I understand, the brave and heroic principal was the first to die at the school as she used the only thing she had to protect the children from the murderer; which was her body. What if she was allowed the access to a gun?…Then too, there’s the case that the killer may have thought twice about going into a school were guns were allowed…Anyway, I don’t know all the answers to this horrendous problem plaguing our Country, but taking away our Second Amendment rights so that we can’t protect ourselves from evil, in my opinion as well as the opinion of our Nation’s Forefathers, is wrong…Anyway, I don’t mean to ruffle any feathers with anyone, and I hope I don’t, but this is how I feel and this is my opinion, only.

Not only can’t I imagine being in the midst of this, I can’t imagine anyone thinking that it would not have happened had the principal had and used a gun. God help us all.

Beautiful poem about a horrible situation. I can’t say I like anything when related to this tragedy, but your poem is well written and heartfelt. Blessings.
