Passalong Plants in the Garden

Passalong Plants

Passalong plants are the BEST sort of plants to have in your garden! They add both charm and magic wherever they are planted.

I started thinking about this last week when my neighbor thinned out her bed of Solomon’s Seal (Polygonatum odoratum) and gave us several plants. I’ve been wanting to grow Solomon’s Seal for years but had not gotten around to buying and planting it.

I’m not kidding when I say my husband and I saw it growing in the neighborhood that very morning, admired it, and talked about adding it to our shade garden.

Sunday Letter: 04.26.2020

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Hi there! I hope everyone is hanging in there during these crazy times. I’m not gonna lie. A couple of days this week, I thought I might climb the walls. I’ve been inside my head, going a bit mad. I want to go to the lake, travel to see my kids, sit at a table at a restaurant and eat something delicious that doesn’t involve washing the dishes afterward.

I want to take my new book on the road and talk to book clubs and libraries.

Rainy days are especially awful right now. And we’ve been experiencing this monotonous, every other day pattern.

But our plants like all the rain; our backyard world is lush and green. This morning, the birds sound extra happy. I plan to spend my Sunday out there with them. And I’m hopeful for a beautiful week ahead (despite more rain the forecast).Continue Reading

Hey there! How about joining me for a virtual book discussion of Gene, Everywhere? This will happen over a four-week period, beginning May 1, 2020. I hope you’ll “attend”!

Seriously, y’all, my book launched only days before the country locked down for coronavirus. So far this spring, I’ve postponed five book discussions and a book signing. I know this is no great catastrophe in the scheme of things, but after much planning and great anticipation, it is disappointing to me.
