Sunday Letter 05.13.18

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mommas who make the world go around❣

This past week was busy-busy filled with lots of things I love except writing. I did very little writing. You may remember (or not) that my one little word for 2018 was balance. (Actually I chose two words, but…) I’m not sure I’m doing so well with balancing the things I want to do. This week I plan to devote several full days to writing.

Our Island of (not so) Heavenly Bamboo

Heavenly Bamboo

Heavenly Bamboo is on the city of Fayetteville’s invasive species list of undesirable plants. One might say it’s misnamed. As in not so heavenly.

What’s the opposite of heavenly?

Earthly?

I’ll call it Earthly Bamboo.

We have a grove of it.

We didn’t plant it. It was planted years ago, a few small stalks that now provide fantastic privacy along the fence. It also grows into the neighbors’ yards and until recently was tangled in our electrical wires. Rumor has it that when our neighbor to the west bought her house, she found a Volkswagen swallowed alive inside the bamboo growing in her back yard.

Maybe Otherworldly Bamboo would be a better name for it.

Dear Sunday Letter friends,

Did you know that yesterday was World Naked Gardening Day? I have a friend who keeps me abreast of this holiday (pun intended). If I know her, she observed it. While I did plant dill yesterday, I did it with my clothes on. John and I also graduated from our Arkansas Master Naturalist training yesterday! Sort of funny that our graduation date aligned with World Naked Gardening Day.Continue Reading
