Willpower

May 7, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

will•pow•er
n.
control of one’s impulses and actions; determination; self-control.

My definition of willpower…crossing the Brazos River at Waco with a giant, straight-from-the-oven, Poppa Rollo’s hamburger-onion-jalapeno pizza…THEN…buying three dozen, freshly-baked, apricot, apple and strawberry cream kolaches from The Czech Stop in West…THEN…driving 90 miles home to Dallas without taking one bite…

Willpower, not to be confused with…

in•san•i•ty
n.
extreme foolishness or irrationality.

Cross My Heart!

May 4, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

100 Words on Saturday – Week 9: Write exactly 100 words based on the picture prompt…
No, Becky, cross my heart, I’m not lying! After English class, he sat beside me in the library. At first, I ignored him and read my book. Really I stared at the words on the page and pretended to read while wondering why on earth he chose the seat next to me when there were tons of empty chairs in the library. He’s soooo cute, and he made me nervous. I almost fainted when he leaned over and whispered in my ear, will you ask Becky if she likes me?
Pinkie swear, those were his exact words.
So do you?

One Ordinary Day

May 2, 2013 By Talya Tate Boerner

The Writers’ Post Week #77 Prompt: Rewind, Pause or Fast Forward? – If you could change anything in your life, which button would you press?
***

When my time on earth is done, I would like to re-wind to one ordinary summer day at the lake when my children were young.  Not to change a single moment, but to re-live and remember each second, to make sure I take every detail with me.

To stroll with them along the rocky shoreline collecting shells, to see them hold hands and spring into the cold water from the dock, to feel the warm sunshine on my face, to hear my name called out before bedtime….all simple, yet special things.

When my time on earth is done, all I hope for is that my kids are happy and healthy and have learned to appreciate how incredibly intoxicating ordinary can be.
